Eye Examinations

Time for a checkup?

At Barrhaven Eyecare, our adult and senior eye exams do more than just check your vision—we take a closer look at your overall eye health using advanced imaging technology.

This wide-angle view of your retina lets us spot early signs of conditions like glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy—often before you notice any symptoms. It’s quick, comfortable, and usually doesn’t require us to dilate your pupils.

In addition to this imaging, your exam will include a vision check, a precise prescription update, and a thorough look at the health of your eyes. We take the time to get to know you and your lifestyle, so your care is tailored to what you really need.

By combining cutting-edge technology with personalized care, we’re here to help you protect your vision for the long term. Book your appointment today—we’d love to see you!

How often should you have an eye exam?

It depends a little on your age and overall health, but here’s a helpful guide based on recommendations from the Canadian Association of Optometrists:

Ages 20–39:

Every two to three years is usually fine, unless you have risk factors like a family history of eye conditions.

Ages 40–64:

Every two years is a good rule of thumb—more often if you have diabetes, high blood pressure, or other health concerns.

Ages 65 and up:

Once a year, since age-related changes in vision and eye health become more common.

If you have certain medical conditions or a family history of eye disease, your optometrist might recommend more frequent visits. We’ll always work with you to create a care schedule that fits your needs.
