OCT SCANs
Imaging Technology
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
OCT is a quick, non-invasive imaging test that uses light waves to create a detailed 3D images of the retina and optic nerve. It allows your doctor to see the individual layers of the retina and detect subtle changes that may not be visible during a routine exam.
OCT is commonly used to help diagnose and manage:
- Glaucoma
- Macular degeneration (dry and wet AMD)
- Diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular edema
- Macular holes
- Epiretinal membranes
- Retinal swelling or fluid
- Optic nerve disorders
Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography (OCTA) is an advanced, non-invasive imaging test that builds on OCT technology to visualize blood flow in the retina and choroid. It creates detailed maps of the eye’s microvasculature, allowing your doctor to detect early vascular changes.
OCTA is commonly used to help diagnose and manage:
- Macular degeneration
- Diabetic retinopathy
- Retinal vein and artery occlusions
- Macular telangiectasia
At Barrhaven Eyecare we are able to provide both OCT and OCTA scans to detect the earliest signs of retinal disease, even before symptoms may be present. Ask your doctor about OCT/OCTA at your next visit.
