Eye Examinations
Why regular exams are important
At Barrhaven Eyecare, we know how important good vision is for your child’s learning, play, and everyday life.
That’s why we focus on making eye exams easy, comfortable, and stress-free—for both kids and parents!
Our pediatric eye exams use the latest technology to give us a clear, wide view of your child’s eyes. This helps us spot any potential issues early, so your child is set up for success from the start.
Whether you have a curious toddler or a busy teen, we customize each exam based on your child’s age and needs, helping them feel relaxed and at ease. And if they need glasses, we’ve got a great selection of fun, colorful frames they’ll be excited to wear—because glasses should feel just as good as they look.
We’re here to make sure your child gets the care they need to see clearly and confidently. Schedule their eye exam today and help them see the world at their best!
How often should your child have an eye exam?
It depends a little on their age and overall health, but here’s a helpful guide based on recommendations from the Canadian Association of Optometrists:
Infants and Toddlers (Birth to 24 months):
A baby’s first eye exam should take place between 6 and 9 months to help ensure their vision is developing properly.
Preschoolers (2 to 5 years):
Eye exams during the preschool years are key to catching any early vision issues. We recommend an additional check-up between ages 2 and 5.
School-Aged Children (6 to 19 years):
Annual eye exams are important for school-aged kids to make sure they’re seeing clearly and ready to succeed in school, sports, and everyday life.
Catching vision problems early can make a big difference—helping them do their best in school, enjoy activities, and feel confident every day. Just like we look after our kids’ physical health, taking care of their eyes is just as important.

At Barrhaven Eyecare, we know that vision care is important at every stage of life, from children’s developing eyes to seniors needing specialized support. We are here to help you and your family maintain clear and healthy vision for years to come.
